Case Study 02A LONDON TOWNHOUSE
Interior Design: MWAI Architects/LondonPhotography: Alexander James

The extension of an existing building in London engages with the language of classic English kitchens and carefully carries it forward.

MWAI Architects developed a design that embraces familiar typologies and understands function as part of spatial expression - always with the aim of making everyday life more flexible and intuitive.

At the center is a kitchen island made up of two tables. A solid stone block rises from table to worktop height, changing the space depending on use. Integrated storage sits beneath the tables, while above them a surface shifts between working, cooking, and gathering.

Solid stained oak was used for furniture and tables. The wall units were given a hand-painted finish with visible brushstrokes, adding depth to the surfaces and giving the room warmth and calm.

A project that shows how design responds to use without becoming subordinate to it. Spaces adapt without losing character. The result is a kitchen that embraces change and enriches the living space over the long term.
